Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting  game released by Warner Bros available in iPhone for free, the game is tied into the console version but is not the same experience.

The gameplay uses tap and swipe gestures to fight your foes and is very repetitive. Tap, tap, tap, swipe when prompted, tap tap, tap, swipe when prompted, repeat that for around 4 minutes and your very likely to win the match in the early stages of the game. Taps will provide combos and the swipes will generate heavy hits  and by increasing your combos you can unleash special moves. Whilst the graphics are great the gameplay process gets dull very quickly.

One great thing you can do in Injustice is unlock content in the Console version of the game by signing up-to a Warner Bros account and logging into it on your console and your iPhone, this provides additional skins and abilities to unlock meaning you can progress your console game whilst on the go, it works both ways too with content being unlocked on your phone by playing the console version.

Upgrades in the game (including characters and special abilities) can be purchased either by spending  gameplay earned xp or buy purchasing xp through in game micro transactions. The best characters will have you spending a fortune to unlock or a major amount of time to gain the xp which is frustration the more you play as the difficulty ramps up fast requiring you to grind or spend.

If you don’t mind the grind, Injustice: Gods Among us is a very nice game to look at, however the lack of any story line coupled with the grind-fest needed to unlock the best characters means that the game leaves a lot to be desired.  Its certainly worth a try for free and a good companion of you are a fan of the full console version.

Iron Man 3 is the official game tie-in of the movie for mobile systems developed by Gameloft, the game uses a combination of tilt functionality, swipes and taps on the screen for the actual gameplay however as much of your time will be spent upgrading and fixing your armor.

This isn’t a problem though, you will want to upgrade quickly in order to make the most of the exciting gameplay and the upgrades are worth having. You can spend points gained in the gameplay to buy these upgrades or (if you don’t fancy a grindfest) purchase upgrade points via in app purchases.

The main gameplay has you on rails flying in a mixture of street level and mid height courses, the tilt functionality will have you dodging a mixture of obstacles including oncoming vehicles, missiles, billboards and fighter jets. I usually hate any game that uses the tilt functionality however in Iron Man 3 these controls are tight and you feel in control of the action.

Your main foes are the forces of AIM in the guise of flying mechs, minor bosses (in iron man armor) and some standard drones that fire projectiles at you (they look like the probot droids from Empire Strikes Back) and you can fire blasts from your hands that fire directly at the enemy or a beam of energy that can cut through multiple enemies at a time.  Sometimes the game will require you to tilt the device to dodge enemy fire and attack enemies at the same time meaning you have you contort your fingers in a way that makes the touch screen difficult to utilize which often causes you to take damage or miss firing opportunities. This feels like a minor flaw in the game design.

ironman-ipad-game-review-12One other minor complaint is that the game has very few levels.  The level you play in is randomly generated however there are only a few of them and you can regularly end up in the same one time after time.

Overall Iron Man 3 is a very good game and there is a hell of a lot to unlock if you dedicate time to it (or pay for it).  The game is great without the need to purchase anything though, sure you can get the Iron Patriot armor (one of the 16 you can unlock) but there’s plenty of gameplay available for free.  The gameplay is repetitive but it is also very exciting and graphically the game looks very good, especially in the menu and upgrade system.

Crescent Moon Games has provided the first hands-on gameplay video of their upcoming 3D RPG Ravensword. The game has received a massive amount of attention in our forums since it was first revealed in August.

Since the first trailer was released, Josh Presseisen reports that they have been undergoing further performance optimization and interface tweaking. The following video represents a beta version of the game which shows the character fighting a troll in the woods, a skeleton in the dungeon, and lizard warrior in the dark lands of Sytheria.

The video shows a very impressive 3D action RPG. The control system shown in the video is said to be “completely changing” and will include some auto-targetting. The game is undergoing active development and is expected to be released sometime later this year.
