The international paint company is following the lead of every other industry and has created an app that is cross platform compatible, and lets you see what your rooms will look like when painted in different colours. Dulux Visualizer is available for Apple and Android devices and it uses the camera on your mobile device to track and detect surfaces, edges and contour changes, mapping out the area of an image that needs to be painted. The company kept selling the Atlas controller in spite of the fact that gamers couldn’t download the app anymore. But all that is in the past right now.

This acquisition feeds industry speculation that Google is working on a TV set-top game box, which would enable customers to play Android games on the big screen. This is a hot technology area right now. Apple has a product on the market now, the Apple TV, and Amazon is expected to bring their set top box out within a month.

These big players became interested in this once they found how interested consumers are in their mobile games. In fact, both the iTunes store and Google Play have so many games on offer that they are virtual arcades. We have high expectations from Google

As hardware gets cheaper and cheaper every day, and cloud computing becomes more powerful, flexible, and integrated into our lives, things could change.

The public’s gaming tastes can and do shift, also. In a few years, these two powerhouses may be facing some serious competition. Years ago, people thought it was an odd choice for Microsoft to move into the gaming market from its traditional Windows and desktop software. They thought the same when Sony made their move into gaming consoles.

Google has some big advantages at this point – incredible financial clout and money to invest, teams of highly skilled engineers, and an Android platform with millions of users worldwide. They certainly have the potential to become a big player in this market, and the purchase of Green Throttle Games looks like a step in that direction.

This game is one of the best android games I have played in a long time. It’s as simple as anyone could ask for and it’s addictive like you would never believe. I mean what’s not to love about a baseball throwing granny… Oh did I mention she is wearing roller skates.

Okay then let’s get into what this game is about. You play Granny Smith an OAP on roller skates and the objective is to get to the end of each level collecting as many coins as possible and all the apples before this little kid with a dodgy Lone Ranger mask. To do this you have two button control, The left thumb is to whip your cane so as to move quicker and grab onto any over head zip lines (When on zip line hold button down or you will fall), The right thumb is to jump cracks, cars, boxes and do 720 mid air spins while breaking through some glass windows and trying to land back on your skates…. Because if you don’t you lose your footing, fall over and the little kid catches up. Sounds simple enough right. After progressing through some of the levels you unlock up to three worlds, in the second of which you can start to collect baseballs that you can throw ahead of you to break glass making things slightly easier for yourself.
Upon collecting the apples and coins you finish the level and rewarded with gold coins and a shiny gold medal then you are brought back to a Super Mario Bros 1 type world map. Actually this little game is basically a Mario game but instead of a plumber you are a granny, it’s your simple 2d side scroller where completing the last level unlocks the next and as you unlock the worlds you can earn coins to unlock new playable characters like Scruffy the dog and Stanley the old man but the same rules apply.

I honestly think the good people at Mediocre have made a superb well rounded addictive frustrating game. I especially like how when you complete the level the replay is played back in an old vintage styleee for your enjoyment and the jazz music on the main menu is just a touch of genius. My eldest daughter loved this game and I couldn’t put it down. At 79p on Android I would seriously recommend this game to anyone.

The Tamagotchi L.I.F.E is a true to the original port. In fact, you can even view the app within one of the many original shells the Tamagotchis used to come in, if you want to be truly old school. Still, there’s nothing about it that’s a surprise; you feed and play with your Tamagotchi to keep its hunger levels and happiness levels up, clean up the area when you can and generally keep him from getting sick. Depending on how well you take care of your Tamagotchi, it will evolve into different kinds, all of which can last a variety of life-spans. And of course, they suffer just as much as they used to, easily being forgotten and left to starve.

Except the app has a feature that could be either great or considered torture; the ability to turn on notifications. Your phone will get notifications any time your Tamagotchi needs to be fed, cleaned, or isn’t happy enough. Turning this on turns into an onslaught of notifications that, if you aren’t really playing it for any reason that nostalgia, can quickly get annoying. But if you really need to have the best evolved little guy, then that’s the way to go.

You also get to unlock little features, like being able to change your shell or background. It’s not much, but it’s something more than the originals offered, isn’t it?

The app is free, so there’s really no reason to check it out if you loved those little guys on your keychain when you were a kid. You might find caring for it though is more than you bargained for.

The same cannot be said for fake reviews used to bolster a game’s score on iTunes, which can be disastrous. One such developer allegedly guilty of using this tactic is Molinker.

According to a story on IntoMobile, Apple VP Phil Schiller received an email complaint regarding Moniker’s NightCam Pro app. The email describes how 42 of the 43 reviews are similar in terms of language and the same five star ratings.

The same users have only reviewed other Molinker apps, further suggesting that they’re bogus. As a result, Molinker has been banned from developing for Apple and its 1,000+ apps have been taken down.

In a separate development, it seems Molinker may not be the only developer guilty of shill reviewing. According to a Touch Arcade forum post, a lot of reviews for Gameloft’s Modern Combat: Sandstorm app seem to be all very similar in their writing style, and all give the app five stars.

In the words of forumite Slayher:

“Hundreds of 5 star reviews popped up all in a row overnight, some even copy and paste and all very generic. This after days of 1 and 2 star reviews by angry users experiencing the upnp and crashing bugs. What they’re doing is very obvious, just go through the Dec 7th reviews and see for yourself.”

Other forum members echo Slayher’s criticisms of Gameloft, while a few speculate that the apparently bogus reviews may have been submitted by a rival to make Gameloft appear guilty of shill reviewing – a convoluted but no less worrying suggestion.

Whoever the culprit turns out to be – if anybody at all – the vulnerability of Apple’s ratings system is troubling. As Slayher laments, “The review system is the only way we have to communicate our concerns and they’ve found a way to take that away.”

No wonder, then, that Apple has come down so heavily on Molinker. This will be a worrying move for any other developers who have been tempted to influence App Store user ratings or who have been the victim of a stitch up: it may just have cost them a place on the App Store.

Rumours of the large form touchscreen device from Apple haven’t exactly disappeared so much as people have grown wise to the slew of gossip used to build viral interest in new hardware these days.

But it seems talk of the Apple tablet is slowly beginning to solidify. ElectricPig reports on a small slip made by Bill Keller of The New York Times (who has apparently had meetings with Steve Jobs and team regarding digital publication of newspapers and magazines), who may have inadvertently given away the name of Apple’s anticipated device.

“[Hopefully] we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple Slate.”

Nothing official has been confirmed, but the Apple Slate would be very fitting name for a large form touchscreen. The possibility that the device has seen production he is further bolstered by spare parts appearing online, in the shape of SIM card holders manufactured by electronic giant Foxconn, which is previously rumoured to have landed a contract with Apple for the tablet.

We’re still not likely to hear anything this year, but the chances of an announcement in the new year by getting better every day – especially now Apple will be going up against Microsoft with an even sexier touchscreen ‘booklet’ device.
