I seemed to download something new each week. The games and apps varied from gambling apps to bomb shelter management games. Here’s my rundown:

Leo Vegas Mobile Casino

Regular readers will know I like a flutter. The thrill of winning some money whilst waiting for a train or even sitting on the loo is fantastic. Leo Vegas Casino’s has a range of different game types for Android and iOS devices, from slots to poker. Personally, I love a game of Texas Hold Em and have won numerous times on various online casinos.

Fallout Shelter

The announcement that Fallout 4 was coming in 2016 set the gaming community alight. What surprised gamers more, was the release of a new standalone mobile game. Fallout Shelter was a highly addictive ‘shelter-management sim’ where you play the ‘overseer’, whose job it was to protect the inhabitants, manage resources and grow the community. Much of my summer was spent growing my shelter to over 150 residents and even renaming them to friends and family.

In my mission to earn more and learn more, I decided that I wanted to know more about the stock market. I’ve always been pretty reckless with money, but 2015 was the year I got organised. Part of this change was to trying and figure out the return in stocks. Markets.com was invaluable in showing me how stocks rise and fall like the tide. After investing heavily in Facebook, Microsoft, Google and Volkswagen I could see how it changes on a daily basis. I started using the app with ‘pretend’ money in order to see who investment savvy and I was so far I am over £500 richer.

Angry Birds 2

After 15 sequels to the original Angry Birds game, Angry Birds 2 finally arrived. The birds have raced each other, been tied to Star Wars, Rio and Transformers and even the evil pigs have enjoyed their own spin-off titles. However, with the new full length CGI movie on the horizon, it was time to go back to basics and release Angry Birds 2. Now i’m over 100 levels into it, I can safely say that it is great fun and has improved greatly over the original. The extra features, such as multi-stage levels and new cards system give it a golf game style experience and the spells add a new dimension to approaching levels. There is tonnes of monetisation options but they are subtle enough not to annoy a player.

Flipboard

Android finally got it’s own Flipboard app. As such, it has been my morning paper each day, as I enjoyed what little sunshine the English coast gets. Having all my favourite websites feed directly into an easily readable interface made it easy to keep up and stay social, as I read, shared and researched from the comfort of my own garden.

The summer of 2015 was hugely enjoyable, as I was able to make money, invest money, play games and keep up with the stories that interested me. Out of the many games and apps I used during the time, these had to be the best.

Bingo is a firm favourite with mums and the ability to play online via your smartphone means that you can enjoy the thrill and excitement of the game on an array of really cool bingo apps, where you can look forward to winning some great prizes or cash. This enables you to enjoy an authentic bingo experience without having to leave your home, making it perfect for stay at home mums with young kids.

Despicable Me

We’ve all seen the delightful movies under the pretence that the kids wanted to watch them – now you can enjoy the game. Despicable Me provides you with a fun and enjoyable gaming experience. You can enjoy the exciting Minion Rush and you will find that the game enables you to take part in a range of fun challenges as well as providing you with fast paced entertainment.

Angry Birds 2

As many mums will already know, the Angry Birds games are so fun that they can become positively addictive. Despite their simplicity, these are games that have many people glued to their smartphone screens. In fact, their popularity has resulted in everything from merchandising to an up and coming movie. Now the sequel is out and its totally free, there is no excuse.

With these great games for your smartphone, you can enjoy a diverse host of entertainment whether you are looking after the kids at home, whether you are on a break at work, or whether you are on the go.

This game is one of the best android games I have played in a long time. It’s as simple as anyone could ask for and it’s addictive like you would never believe. I mean what’s not to love about a baseball throwing granny… Oh did I mention she is wearing roller skates.

Okay then let’s get into what this game is about. You play Granny Smith an OAP on roller skates and the objective is to get to the end of each level collecting as many coins as possible and all the apples before this little kid with a dodgy Lone Ranger mask. To do this you have two button control, The left thumb is to whip your cane so as to move quicker and grab onto any over head zip lines (When on zip line hold button down or you will fall), The right thumb is to jump cracks, cars, boxes and do 720 mid air spins while breaking through some glass windows and trying to land back on your skates…. Because if you don’t you lose your footing, fall over and the little kid catches up. Sounds simple enough right. After progressing through some of the levels you unlock up to three worlds, in the second of which you can start to collect baseballs that you can throw ahead of you to break glass making things slightly easier for yourself.
Upon collecting the apples and coins you finish the level and rewarded with gold coins and a shiny gold medal then you are brought back to a Super Mario Bros 1 type world map. Actually this little game is basically a Mario game but instead of a plumber you are a granny, it’s your simple 2d side scroller where completing the last level unlocks the next and as you unlock the worlds you can earn coins to unlock new playable characters like Scruffy the dog and Stanley the old man but the same rules apply.

I honestly think the good people at Mediocre have made a superb well rounded addictive frustrating game. I especially like how when you complete the level the replay is played back in an old vintage styleee for your enjoyment and the jazz music on the main menu is just a touch of genius. My eldest daughter loved this game and I couldn’t put it down. At 79p on Android I would seriously recommend this game to anyone.

Angry Birds is a game that could easily be described with any number of cliches such as “easy to play, difficult to master”, “polished”, “addictive”, and others. When it comes down to it, what makes Angry Birds great is how incredibly accessible the game is to everyone, even non-gamers. Gameplay amounts to a number of different birds, each with different abilities, loading themselves in to a slingshot. You then use a single finger to fling them at a fort filled with smug, smiling pigs.

There isn’t really any quick reaction elements to the game, or really anything that requires more than just intelligently analyzing the weaknesses in the pigs’ fortresses and aiming at them with your birds. Levels are scored and stars are awarded based on performance. Completionists can shoot for three stars, perfecting every level, and gamers just looking to have fun can generally clear levels with one star without too much trouble.

A previous update added Chillingo’s Crystal for all kinds of online scoring, achievements, and all that fun stuff along with 40 new levels. The last update added a new bird and 15 additional levels. This update adds another 15 levels and a new level theme. The amount of content in Angry Birds when it first launched was more than enough, but after all these updates, you really need to pick this game up if you haven’t already.

We just got word from Chillingo’s Clickgamer that an Angry Birds [App Store] update is in the works that adds 40 new levels, two new environments, and complete Crystal integration for online leaderboards, achievements, and all the other fun stuff Crystal provides. They’re planning on submitting the update “very soon”, and even released a new trailer for the game that is easily one of the better iPhone game trailers I’ve seen recently:

Angry Birds is a catapult game where you assist several angry birds as they seek revenge on a gang of egg-stealing green pigs. From our review:

Players are haphazardly tossed into a level in which several angry-looking red birds are gathered around a primitive slingshot, with a small wooden tower harboring a little green pig to the right. Touching and dragging backwards on the bird that is currently mounted in the slingshot will prime your disturbed little critter for launch. From here, your goal is to aim your shot effectively and take out a weak point on the pig’s tower, causing him to fall to his little piggy doom.

We also discussed Angry Birds in our recent podcast, and I really recommend giving the game a look, as I’ve sunk an unbelievably amount of time recently in to total pig destruction. This new update (especially with online leaderboards) is just going to make this great game even better.
