I’ve lost track of the hours Ive spent on gaming apps. You know the feeling. You click on the icon thinking I’ll just play for ten minutes; before you know it, it’s three hours later. And you’re still battling the same level as you were an hour ago! Gaming has always been addictive. In fact, there’s a science behind it. We always want to elevate to the next level or collect more gems. You love them and hate them in equal measure! For this post, we’ve compiled a short list of some of the most devilishly addictive games. Which ones keep you up at night?

Monument Valley

Monument Valley is a short but incredibly addictive game. Once you start, you won’t put it down until you’ve completed the whole thing. The genius of Monument Valley is the design. Every level is a work of art, inspired by MC Escher’s impossible puzzles. The simple, minimal design is unlike anything you’ve seen in gaming, let alone smartphone gaming. The puzzles are excruciatingly difficult, but oh-so-satisfying when you solve them too! Trust us, you won’t put this one down.

threes

Threes!

The best gaming apps are simple, just like all the best puzzles. They are the ones that seem so easy, you can’t stop until you figure it out! Threes! is one such example. The aim is simple; slide the tiles around until you create multiples of three. It’s so simple it almost sounds boring. Until you try it for yourself! The app received critical acclaim across the board and became one of 2014’s most popular apps.

hi-guess-the-movie

Hi Guess The Movies

This app was part of a larger ‘Hi Guess The ___’ franchise. It included movies, books, characters, food and just about anything else you can think of. It shows you an image, cartoon or pixelation, and you have to guess what it is. Again, simple, intuitive, but mind-bendingly addictive.

proust

Proust

Proust is the fun game that proves ranking things never gets old. The app offers you a category and five options relating to it. All you have to do is rank the options from best to worst. For example, the category might be Harry Potter characters. From there, you rank the five options from best to worst. The addictive bit sets in when you realise you can see what your friends have put. Hours and hours of fun!

minecraft-pocket

Minecraft

Minecraft is perhaps the most successful gaming app of all time. The irresistible game allows you to build just about anything from small blocks. The game benefited from some powerful online app marketing that sent it stratospheric. It became an instant hit on all corners of the internet. There are now entire websites, manuals and YouTube channels dedicated to the game.

dumb-ways-to-die

Dumb Ways To Die

This app is just as silly as the name suggests. Dumb Ways To Die presents the player with a number of ridiculous situations. It’s your job to save the cartoon characters from silly deaths, all set to an irritatingly brilliant soundtrack. As you progress, the game gets faster and harder until your characters die. Silly, dumb, but genius.

And that brings us to the end of our list, folks. We hope you enjoyed our short trip through the most addictive games. We’ll see you again soon.

Boat racing games are a dime a dozen, good boat racing games are much more expensive; more like a dollar a dozen. While sifting through the multitude of boat games that are available on Google play store, players may get a case of sea sickness. Rest easy, fellow gamer, I have sailed the seas and crossed the oceans. I have ridden in big boats and tiny boats just to deliver this list of the best boat racing games. So without further ado, let’s get wet from the ocean spray and check out these following games.

boat-race

Sliding into port on your mobile devices is Boat Race, developed by Inviqa UK Ltd. This game will let players get a feel for how to row in a competitive college row boat. The game asks players to choose which team they wish to represent in this simulation and the rowing begins. Players will use the natural in and out rowing motion with their arms to beat their competitors. It is a very challenging game, sure to wear out the arms of most all who dare to row. Boat Race is free on the Google play store.

boat-rush

The next game to drop its anchor onto your mobile device is Boat Rush by Fabfunapps. This game is about controlling several boats across your screen, all the while, avoiding swimmers and other boats. The gameplay is very simple as players will stop the boats that are on the screen and speed them up with the touch of a finger. The game graphics are great for the price of free and the sound is not too bad. Boat Rush is a great way to waste away a lazy day. It is very addictive. Boat Rush is available on the Google play store.

speed-boats-zombies

Groaning its way onto this top boat racing games list is Speed Boat: Zombies. Like most of you, I was sold as soon as I saw the word Zombie. So what better way to mix up the water with some blood than to kill a herd of undead all from the relative safety of your speed boat? Players will use a virtual joystick to move the camera around. The cool thing about Speed Boat: Zombies is that the Zombies don’t even have to be in the water, as your boat can go across land to plow into one these walking piles of dead flesh. Players will also be able to man the mounted guns on the ship and blast those Zombies back into their watery graves.

life-boat

Rounding out our list is Life Boat, developed by Smonte Ltd. In Life Boat, players have only one objective and that is to save as many lives as they can from a burning ship. Players will take their boat, rescue stranded passengers and drop them off safely at the dock. Players will then head back out and fill their boat up again. The gameplay is simple to pick up and most can play the game without any problems. Life Boat is free on the Google play store.

Now, what are you waiting for? Why are you still here? The tide is high and you should be heading over to the Google play store, now.

Article’s been contributed by a great boat racing fan who also administers Boat Arcade which is his own boat racing and parking website with online games.

I’ve been holding off reviewing the combo crew for some time now. I was so excited when I heard the concept and saw the visuals of this combo focused beat-em-up. The overall look and feel harks back to the first golden age of video game fighting games. Games like final fight, streets of rage and street fighter were not only addictive to play but looked awesome.

Combo crew takes a lot of elements of these classic titles and you see the main protagonists having to scale the Boss Inc tower floor by floor beating up minions as you go. They story won’t win any awards but its all about the action. There are 4 players to choose from, two of which will be locked until you have played through a sufficient amount of the game. Each battle earns points and in game currency (that looks like controllers) that can be used to upgrade your characters moves as well as buy more stuff.

combo-crew-characters

The gameplay mechanic is like nothing I have ever seen and it looks specially developed for small touch screens. You tap the enemy you want to attack to select him then you gesture a one touch or two touch swipe in different directions (meaning there is a maximum of eight possible actions) and the animated attack ensues whilst you sit back and plot your next move (only for a second however).

The attack animations are smooth and imaginative and later purchased attacks have their nods to the retro beat-em-ups such as the Chun Li kick.

There is also various counter moves that can be initiated when the attacker has a symbol above his head. This is a nice touch but useful when you are in a full flow combo.

combo-crew-1

So far, so good

It has the moves, it has the controls and it has the retro nod to those legendary beat-em-ups. It even has a shop to get extra moves and power ups. So why have I found myself playing it so in frequently?

Sadly, when you play it and you are doing well it’s great, but if you get stuck and replay the same level more than five times it’s easy to put down and forget about. The power ups are pretty pricey but why is GREAT is the fact you have to play to earn the credit and their is NO in-app purchase which I find awesome.

Overall this game has so many good points I would definitely recommend it to a friend. The only caveat being that when it gets hard you might find yourself leaving it on proverbial shelf for quite a while. If you do get into the beat-em-up action however you will find it a challenge but very rewarding.

I am keeping a close eye on The Game Bakers in future as you can see they are creating games for gamers and not for a quick buck.

Candy Crush is endlessly addictive. Endlessly. In fact, I’ve seen people get angry just at the thought of being dragged into the craze, the anguish, the tears… and Candy Crush Saga, the app variation of the browser based Candy Crush, has taken over the lives of many. And rightly so.

Candy Crush Saga is a variation on games like Bejewled, where you have to match three like pieces to make them disappear and move forward. There are five different types of levels; Moves, which limits the number of moves you have to complete a puzzle, Jelly, which encases pieces in jelly that you have to chip away, Ingredients, where special unmatchable pieces are needed to score points, Time Limited, which is obvious, and Candy Order, where players must collect a specific number of candies using a set number of moves.

candy-crush-saga2

If a lot of that sounds difficult, well, it is. The higher the level, the greater the difficulty, and there are 350 levels in total. That’s a lot of candy matching. The game can become frustrating at points, the kind of frustrating that makes you want to give up, not actually try to get better. That’s the problem with Candy Crush; as easy as it is to pick up, once you hit a wall, it’s just as easy to toss away and never want to look at again.

Still, a free game is a free game, and for that, it might be worth a few hours of gameplay until you get fed up. If you love that kind of challenge, though, this might be the kind of game you’ve been looking for.

One of the top-selling paid for mobile games, Minecraft Pocket Edition brings the game of Minecraft to the iOS and Android, without extra survival features like redstone and rail systems. Overall though, it pretty much is the original game of building a virtual, well, anything you want, in a sandbox environment. And while the app has actually been out for a while, most people haven’t even picked it up until the past few months. It currently costs $7 and for many fans of Minecraft, or those willing to try it out, well worth it.

The objectives remain the same as the original, which is that players can build whatever reality they’d like, dealing with mobs of zombies, creepers, skeletons, pigs, cows and more. Worlds are finite like the Classic version, but there isn’t infinite water at the corners, which makes things a little more difficult. Otherwise, most of it is near the same, often being updated which is a plus to any mobile game.mine-craft-people

Of course, the 3D game environment really drains the phone battery, so unless you are running on full charge or are plugged in, you might find your phone dying fairly quickly. For some, that’s enough to quit playing altogether instead of always compromising their phones uses.

Multiplayer is also an option and is cross platform from the Androis to iOS, but not between the demo and the full version. The cross platform ability is a huge pull, as it expands who you can play with to a better degree and lets you play with friends no matter what kind of phone they, or you, own.

Minecraft Pocket Edition is great for those who want to sculpt and create on the go. It is always being updated, which is more than can be said for most apps, and it is worth it for those who want to dabble before trying out the full PC or console games, or to whet fans’ appetites on the go.

Sometimes, simple is best. Take away the quests, the story, and just add some jumping. Literally. That’s Doodle Jump’s main goal; to jump as high as you possible can. There’s nothing fancy about it; you get a cute little doodle jumper and you jump as high as you can go.

Well, it’s not that easy. The game randomizes platforms, so as you start it’s easy to get yourself up there but the further you go, the more spaced out they are. Or they might collapse when you jump on them, or move back and forth, making it harder to aim. Your jumper is always in jumping motion; it takes a tilt of your smart phone to move him back and forth. The more extreme the tilt, the faster he’ll travel in that direction. The sensitivity can be changed, which is a good thing, as it really is all about how you work with your phone’s accelerometer.

doodle-jump

You’ll also run into enemies along the way, which emit a sound that you can hear before they appear on screen. The downside is if you choose to play with sound off, you have no idea they are coming up. It’s very easy to run into one with no warning, making it hard to play this game in a public place where you might not want to disturb others.

Another downside is particular to the Android version; you don’t have the option for upgrades like the iPhone version does, making the game a lot more basic and overall much harder. It isn’t certain whether they will implement those options for Android users in the future, but it would be nice.

Your goal is only to beat your high score; there is literally no end game. This can make for an engrossing game, so it’s best not to start if you might have to abruptly finish!
